KaiPod Learning has partnered with Cognia to develop a new accreditation for microschools interested in accreditation.

Cognia, the nation’s largest accrediting agency in K-12 education, and KaiPod Learning, an innovative education startup that supports educators in launching and operating high-quality microschools, announced today a new partnership to further the quality and expansion of the microschool movement.

Microschools are small, non-traditional schools launched by passionate educators. They offer small group learning focused on each student’s unique needs and interests. With flexible options and personalized support from expert educators, students build confidence and discover the joy of learning in meaningful ways. Microschools are emerging in response to increased demand for school choice. In many states, they are eligible for vouchers or education savings accounts (ESAs), enabling parents to use public funds for alternative schooling options. Some states also require accreditation for microschools to qualify for these programs.

Through this agreement, microschools supported by KaiPod Learning that seek accreditation will have the opportunity to achieve “synchronized” accreditation with Cognia and gain access to Cognia’s customized improvement tools and services. Through rigorous self-assessment and third-party evaluation, Cognia Accreditation helps schools meet improvement standards and sustain a commitment to providing high-quality education.

“Microschools, like all schools, can demonstrate that they have the strong leadership, student-centered learning, and quality teaching that research says helps students succeed,” says Dr. Mark A. Elgart, Cognia president and CEO. “As the premier accreditation and school improvement organization, Cognia is excited to partner with KaiPod Learning to provide a framework that has clear standards for the nation’s 5,000-plus microschools to measure themselves against and demonstrate quality for parents and state recognition.”

“KaiPod’s goal is to support one million educators in the next 10 years by helping them launch and sustain exceptional microschools,” said KaiPod Learning Founder and CEO Amar Kumar. “This partnership with Cognia gives our partner schools a clear path to demonstrating quality—ensuring strong teaching, student engagement, and effective school operations.”

For the past year, Cognia worked closely with KaiPod Learning to develop a quality-focused framework that establishes clear guardrails and standards for accrediting microschools. The goal is to support continuous improvement while honoring the unique structure of microschools. The framework aligns with Cognia’s proven accreditation process and is tailored to fit the flexible learning models that characterize microschools.

“Microschools represent one of the most dynamic shifts in education today, and ensuring quality in these models is essential,” said Dr. Adina Victor, vice president of non-public school services at Cognia. “Through this partnership, we have created a pathway that supports innovation while holding microschools to high standards. We are proud to work with KaiPod Learning to expand access to accreditation and help microschools grow with purpose, accountability, and a focus on continuous improvement.”
