Cognia explores differences in perceptions across educators and families in key areas, such as school culture and instructional practice.

Perceptions shape reality in schools—and when educators and families view daily practices through different lenses, those differences can affect trust, communication, and improvement efforts.

Drawing on matched survey responses from educators, families, and students across 906 schools in 39 states, this analysis examines where perceptions align and where they diverge. Findings show strong alignment around school culture, relationships, safety, and well‑being, while the largest gaps concentrate in learner‑centered instructional practices such as differentiation and personalization. The analysis also reveals meaningful patterns by school size and poverty level, offering actionable insights for schools seeking to strengthen shared understanding and advance continuous improvement.
